valge vesinutt (Hygrocybe virginea)

Hygrocybe virginea var. virginea

(= H. nivea)

In upland turf, Muirshiel, Renfrewshire, 2004.

One of the commonest species and one that seems more tolerant of fertilisation and recent disturbance. Consequently it is often seen in lawns, as on the University campus, that would appear unsuitable for other species. Its large, conspicuous fruitbodies are useful for spotting potentially suitable pastures and it is usually abundant in the late season at Muirshiel.
